About SDA
Why Choose Us....
Who owns and operates SDA?
Worimi Local Aboriginal Land Council own and operate Sand Dune Adventures.
We work closely with them to ensure we are preserving the stories, culture and heritage of our lands in all that we do.
The Worimi Story
We want to share the Worimi story with as many people as possible.
SDA does this by providing you an outstanding Indigenous tourism experience. This is how we extend the life of Worimi stories.
It helps to connect Australians and international visitors with our country.
Exclusive Access
SDA provides you with exclusive access to Aboriginal land. This gives you a ‘hands-on’ interactive insight into the richness of our culture and heritage.
Culture combined with the exhilaration of riding a 400cc Quad Bike through our amazing cultural landscape. You experience this on the largest coastal sand dunes in the Southern Hemisphere.
Largest Sand Dunes
Our aim is to share our knowledge with you and hopefully foster a greater understanding and appreciation of the significance of the sand dunes. We do this by sharing the history, stories and traditions through a ‘Cultural Lens’.
Culture and stories
You will hear and learn about our age-old connection to country. You will be exposed to a unique and dynamic hands-on experience that promote our traditional stories.
We support the aspirations of our traditional owners in that: “The Worimi continue to walk on this land and make a tremendous contribution. Our desire as Elders is to do all within our power to care for the land, our people and for the environment. This is our commitment to our forefathers.”
Where we operate
Sand Dune Adventures operates from the Murrook Cultural Centre at Williamtown, Port Stephens, NSW.
This is two and a half hour’s drive north of Sydney, 30 minutes from Newcastle CBD and 30 minutes from Nelson Bay.
Port Stephens is best known for its natural beauty, an abundance of aquatic marine life, uncrowded sandy beaches, sheltered bays and unspoilt National Parks.
Our Mission
The mission of Sand Dune Adventures is to be a leader in both the mainstream and Aboriginal tourism.
And to do this by providing excellent service, equipment and customer experience.
Access for everyone
How we identify and provide for people with specific needs
On occasion, customers have specific needs relating to
- added activities (sand boarding etc)
- tour times (longer riding times, earlier start and/or later finish for sunset photography)
- personal disability challenges
- age challenges (youth and elderly)
- group size numbers
As a result, we are very flexible in our delivery to ensure that everyone gets to experience the dunes in some shape and form.
